3D Planet! 6th Graders Use Creativity and Kindness to Make a Difference

Starting middle school is a big step, but for sixth graders Blanton Taylor '31 and Audrey Hartmann '31 at Saratoga Central Catholic, it’s also been an opportunity to turn creativity into compassion.

Blanton, who joined SCC this September, recently purchased a 3D printer with money he had been saving. This purchase wasn’t just for fun—Blanton had a bigger vision. Last year, his younger brother Press spent time as a patient at Albany Children’s Hospital while battling a severe illness. One of the highlights of Press's days in the hospital was choosing a toy from a bin provided by the staff. That small act of kindness left a lasting impression on Blanton and his family.

Inspired to bring that same joy to more children, Blanton teamed up with his classmate Audrey Hartmann to make a difference. Together, they pitched their idea of creating and selling 3D-printed fidget toys to Principal Signor, who wholeheartedly supported their plan. With encouragement from the SCC community, “3D Planet” was born.

Over the past three days, Blanton and Audrey sold their 3D-printed toys during 4th and 5th-period lunches, with options priced at $3, $4, and $9. Students could keep the toys or donate them, with donated items featuring a special “donated by” sticker for the recipients. The response was overwhelming—by the end of today, they had completely sold out, raising over $300!

The funds will go toward purchasing more filament for the 3D printer, ensuring Blanton and Audrey can continue creating toys for children at Albany Med. Their goal is to donate 40 gift packages filled with these thoughtful toys, spreading joy and hope to young patients.

We are incredibly proud of Blanton and Audrey’s compassion, creativity, and drive. Seeing our students turn their talents into meaningful action is truly inspiring.

Stay tuned for updates on our social media pages and website as they plan to deliver the toys to Albany Medical Center after Thanksgiving break!
