Legendary Horse Racing Announcer & Saratoga Catholic Teacher, Tom Durkin, Surprised by Students

Students, faculty, and staff at Saratoga Central Catholic recently came together to surprise public speaking instructor, Mr. Tom Durkin, in celebration of the release of his new memoir, A Life’s Calling: The Voice Behind the World’s Greatest Horse Races.
After a distinguished career spanning four decades as one of horse racing’s most recognizable voices with NYRA and NBC, Durkin brought his passion for communication and storytelling to the classroom, where he now teaches Public Speaking Basics at Saratoga Central Catholic School.
Believing he was attending a routine meeting, Durkin entered the school gymnasium to find the entire student-body waiting to congratulate him on this special milestone. The celebration culminated with students from his public speaking class receiving copies of the memoir and having the opportunity to have them personally signed by their teacher.
