3 Generations of Brittens: Alumni Spotlight | Saratoga Central Catholic School

Two generations of Brittens have gone through St. Peter's Academy and Saratoga Central Catholic School, and the third generation, Max Britten, just started at SCC this spring.

From Don Britten '68, to his son Adam '97, to his grandson Max '27, a freshman varsity baseball player who recently transferred to SCC - We caught up with the entire Britten family to discuss their experiences at our school and the impressive achievements each has garnered.

Don Britten '68

Don Britten started at St. Peter's Academy in the 8th grade. His decision to come over was strongly influenced by long-time hall of fame basketball Coach Bob King, who at the time was the junior varsity basketball coach. A great athlete, Don played three sports competing on the football, basketball and baseball teams. Don was a two way starter on the first 11 man football championship team in 1966. The Saints were 6-1 and Tri-County Co-Champions. Don was a hard-nosed athlete and a "team-first" guy. His will to win and athletic talent earned him a spot in the SPA/SCC Hall of Fame in 2004.

After his graduation, Don served as a New York State Trooper for 25 years and was Active Duty in the National Guard for 34 years.

For years Don assisted his mentor Bob King with the Saints basketball team in the 1980's and early 1990's. For two seasons, Don served as head basketball coach after Coach King retired, where he was able to coach his son, Adam.

Don and wife Patrica (known as "Patsy" by many) also had two other sons go through SCC; Matt '92 and Danny '94. Matt is a senior investigator for the New York State Troopers. Danny is the owner and broker of Top Net Realty.

Adam Britten '97

Adam Britten started at SCC the earliest of his family, beginning in the 7th grade. Adam had quite the athletic career at SCC! As a three-sport athlete a part of the basketball, soccer, and baseball teams, Adam broke a few records and helped lead his teams to multiple championships during his career. A three-year starter, Adam was on the varsity basketball team all four years of high school and had the privilege to play for Bob King his freshman and sophomore years, and his father, "Coach Don Britten," during his junior and senior years.

In basketball, Adam holds the all-time assist record with 497 career assists. His freshman year, his team won the Foothills Council Championship during the 1993-94 season, and later finished as the Section 2 Class CC Runner-Up.

In his baseball career, he helped lead the Saints to a Tri-Valley League Championship during his senior year in 1997. The team finished their season as the Section 2 Class CC Runner-Up.

After SCC, Adam went on to play collegiate basketball at SUNY Oneonta. As his athletic career came to an end, Adam joined the Air Force for a few months before starting his entrepreneurial career. Adam ran a successful recruiting company called HomeBase Recruiting, helping businesses attract talent in all industries.

Moving to present day, Adam is taking on a new business venture. He will be the next franchise partner for D-Bat Sports in Saratoga Springs, a state-of-the-art training facility for baseball and softball athletes. Opening soon, the indoor facility is perfect for year-round baseball and softball players, equipped with batting cages and led by top trainers in the area!

Max has had a great season so far, playing at second, third, and catching. The Saints are now 17-2 and will finish up the regular season tomorrow against Christian Brothers Academy.
